VOLLEYBALL RULES

2011

WACC Volleyball will adhere to WIAA Rules with the following exceptions:

1.       The 5th Grade and 6th Grade GIRLS ONLY serving line will be moved up six (6) feet and should be appropriately marked by the gym.  We strongly recommend that each coach have a set of WIAA Rules, which may be obtained at most sporting goods stores.

2.       A player may serve from anywhere behind the end line between the sideline extensions.

3.       The net height is 7 feet, 4 and 1/8 inches.

4.       Incidental contact (with the exception of hair) with the net when not making the play on the ball is a fault.

5.       Setting or overhand passing a serve is allowed as long as it is not a lift. A double hit is allowed on any first team contact.

6.       A player may play the ball with any part of their body including their feet (except on the serve).

7.       Each match will consist of three games.  League standings will be based on a cumulative win-loss total of all three games.

8.       Each gym should provide reliable scorekeepers.  Records of games played and scored should be recorded on the league sheets and the score reporter for the home gym should submit them via the score reporting website (http://wacc.witest.com/login.php) by Noon on the Monday after the weekend's play.  The scores are reported by the gym at which they are played.

9.       A spirit of sportsmanship and fair play should be exhibited by coaches and players at all times.  Referees’ and linemen’s decisions are final and should not be subject to discussion from the bench.

10.   WACC Intent Sign must be displayed in all gyms.

11.   All volleyball standards and referee stands MUST be padded.

12.   A team that is not on the floor ready to play ten (10) minutes after the scheduled start of the game forfeits the match.

13.   A starting line-up may consist of as few as four (4) players.  Players arriving late may join the game at next dead ball situation.  Opposing team may play at full strength, although they are asked to consider fair play.

14.   Games will be played up to 25 points rally scoring. There must be a two-point difference to win a game with no cap. A match will consist of three games. All games apply to the standings. Teams shall switch sides for game two. A coin toss for game 3 with the home team calling the toss will determine the serve and side for game three. The third game will be played to only 15 points rally scoring  (win by 2) if 30 minutes or more has elapsed from the start of the first game to the end of the second game.  There will be NO switching of sides half way through the game in game 3, and the players do not need to stand at the end line during the coin flip prior to the start of Game 3.

15.   It will no longer be a fault for the serve to contact the net. This is referred to as a "Let Serve".  If the ball "dribbles" over, it's playable just like any other ball that contacts the net on the way over. If the ball fails to clear the net, it will become dead just as before.

16.   GIRLS ONLY: A lighter "VOLLEY-LITE" ball will be used for 5th and 6th grade.

17.   Regardless of the time (due to a late match or matches), all teams are allowed a ten (10) minute warm-up period before their game.

18.   The host gym is required to supply eight (8) warm-up balls.  No balls from the visiting team will be allowed into the host gym.

19.   Only the Head Coach (in the event the Head Coach is not present, the designated Head Coach) may stand during a game along the sideline, 6 feet back from the sideline, and up to the 10 foot line.

20.   Only the Head Coach (in the event the Head Coach is not present, the designated Head Coach) or the designated Team Captain may call for time-outs.

21.   Multiple substitutions shall be made in succession.  One pair of players after another and only one pair of substitutes in the substitution zone at a time.

23.   The Libero will not be allowed
